🌻우리가 가는 길이 너무 좁은가 자문해 보라🌻

“이를 위하여 너희가 부르심을 입었으니 그리스도도 너희를 위하여 고난을 받으사 너희에게 본을 끼쳐 그 자취를 따라오게 하려 하셨느니라”(벧전 2:21).

그리스도께서는 모든 것을 요구하신다. 만일, 그분께서 그보다 적게 요구하신다면, 그런 수준에 이르게 하고자 치러진 그분의 희생은 너무도 비싸고 큰 것이었다. …

“너희는 … 오직 마음을 새롭게 함으로 변화를 받”(롬 12:2)으라.
이것은 자아 부정의 길이다. 길이 너무 좁고, 이 좁은 길에서 자아를 부정해야 할 일이 너무 많다고 생각되거든, 모든 것을 버리는 것이 얼마나 힘드는가 하는 말이 나오거든, 그리스도께서 나를 위하여 무엇을 버리셨는가라고 자문해 보라.
이 질문은 우리가 자아 부정이라고 부를 수 있는 어떠한 것이라도 그 그늘 속에서 사라져 버리게 할 것이다.

동산에서 큰 핏방울 같은 땀을 흘리시는 그분을 바라보라. 한 천사가 하나님의 아들에게 힘을 주기 위하여 보냄을 받는다.
재판정으로 따라가서, 성난 폭도들에게 조롱과 조소와 모욕을 당하고 계신 그분을 보라. 낡은 자색 왕복을 입으신 그분을 바라보라. 야비한 희롱과 잔인한 조롱을 들어 보라.

그 거룩한 이마에 가시 면류관을 씌우고, 갈대로 쳐서 가시가 그분의 관자놀이를 꿰뚫고 들어가 그 거룩한 이마에서 피가 흐르게 하는 자들을 보라.
하나님의 아들의 피를 달라고 열광적으로 부르짖고 있는 그 살기 등등한 무리들의 음성을 들어 보라.

마침내 그분은 그들의 손에 넘겨지고, 그들은 창백하고 연약하고 피로에 지친 그 고상한 수난자를 십자가의 형장으로 끌고 간다.
그분께서 나무로 된 십자가 위에 양손을 펼치시자, 못은 부드러운 그분의 손과 발을 뚫고 들어간다.

마침내, 천사들도 그 무서운 장면을 보지 않기 위하여 얼굴을 가리우고, 태양도 쳐다보지 않기 위하여 그 빛을 가리우는 그 고통의 시간에, 십자가에 달려 계신 그분을 바라보라.
이 모든 것을 생각해 보고, 우리가 가는 길이 너무 좁은가 자문해 보라.…

그리스도를 위하여 모든 것을 버리는 것은 복된 특권이다. 다른 사람들의 생애를 보고 그들을 본받음으로 더 이상 높이 향상하지 못하는 신세가 되지 말라.
그대에게는 유일하게 참되고 거짓이 없는 모본이 있다. 오직 예수님만을 따르는 것이 안전하다…

🌻Ask, Is the Way Too Strait?🌻

 Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow his steps. 1 Peter 2:21.

Christ demands all. If He required less, His sacrifice was too dear, too great to make to bring us up to such a level....

“Be you transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
This is a self-denying way. And when you think that the way is too strait, that there is too much self-denial in this narrow path; when you say, How hard to give up all, ask yourselves the question, What did Christ give up for me? This question puts anything that we may call self-denial in the shade.

Behold Him in the garden sweating great drops of blood. A solitary angel is sent from heaven to strengthen the Son of God.
Follow Him on His way to the judgment hall, while He is derided, mocked, and insulted by that infuriated mob. Behold Him clothed in that old purple kingly robe. Hear the coarse jest and cruel mocking.

See them place upon that noble brow the crown of thorns, and then smite Him with a reed, causing the thorns to penetrate His temples, and the blood to flow from that holy brow.

Hear that murderous throng eagerly crying for the blood of the Son of God.
He is delivered into their hands, and they lead the noble sufferer away, pale, weak, and fainting, to His crucifixion. He is stretched upon the wooden cross, and the nails are driven through His tender hands and feet.

 Behold Him hanging upon the cross those dreadful hours of agony until the angels veil their faces from the horrid scene, and the sun hides its light, refusing to behold.
Think of these things, and then ask, Is the way too strait? …

 It is a blessed privilege to give up all for Christ. Look not at the lives of others and imitate them and rise no higher. You have only one true, unerring Pattern. It is safe to follow Jesus only….
