🌻 생명의 향기 • 피해야 할 위험 🌻 “여호와여 내가 알거니와 인생의 길이 자기에게 있지 아니하니 걸음을 지도함이 걷는 자에게 있지 아니하나이다" 레 10:23. 경험이 없는 여행자들에게 항상 위험한 나이즈 캐년을 통하는 길은 장마철에는 통과할 수 없는 길이다. 우리는 이 곳을 통과할 때 한 안내자에 대하여 대단히 감사하였다. 나는 좌우 쪽을 볼 수 없었으나 그는 줄을 꼭 붙들고 내가 탄 말은 그를 따라서 그 좁은 길을 지나갔다. 나는 우리 인도자를 따랐다. 이곳에서 부주의하면 죽음을 면치 못할 것이었다. 만일 우리의 탄 말이 오른 쪽으로 한발 헛디딘다면 우리는 골짜기로 떨어졌을 것이다. 우리는 이 길을 거의 숨도 못 쉬고 따라갔다. 나는 이 위험한 길을 가는 것을 그리스도인의 경험으로 예증을 어떻게 할 수 있을까 생각하였다. 우리는 위태한 날을 향하여 인생의 길을 걷고 있다. 우리가 우리의 크신 인도자를 따르고 있는지 분명히 하기 위하여 매 발걸음마다 주의 깊게 파수하는 것이 요구된다. 무신론과 방탕, 범죄가 사면 팔방에 존재한다. 이런 것들은 자제의 고비를 쉽게 풀어 버리게 하며, 분명하게 멸망의 절벽으로 던져 버린다.… 무한한 사랑은 주님의 대속하심을 통하여 이 땅에서 하늘로 가는 길을 만들어 놓으셨다. 그 길은 하나님의 아들이시다. 우리의 잘못된 발을 인도하기 위해 천사 안내자가 보내어진다. 하늘의 영광스러운 사닥다리가 모든 사람의 앞길에 놓여 있으며, 악습과 어리석음의 자신의 길을 금하도록 해준다. 그는 죄의 삶으로 나아가기 전에 십자가에 못박힌 구속자를 짓밟아야 한다. 하늘에 계신 우리 아버지의 음성이 우리를 부르시니 이리로 올라오라.... 겸손하고 신뢰하는 자들은 평화의 길로 가도록 보호되며 인도될 것이다. 그러나 무한하신 지혜자께서는 어느 누구에게도 강제로 가장 귀중한 하늘의 선물을 받으라고 하지 않으시며, 어느 누구에게도 무한한 값을 치루신 길로 걷도록 강제하지 않으신다. 모든 사람들은 하늘로 인도하는 좁고도 빛나는 절벽 길을 가든지 종말은 죽음인 넓고도 쉬운 길을 가든지 자신들이 택하도록 허락되었다. - 높은 부르심, 11.

🌻 Aroma of Life • Perils to Shun 🌻 O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. Jeremiah 10:23. The road through Knight’s Canyon, always perilous to the inexperienced traveler, is often impassable in the rainy season. We were very thankful for a pilot in this part of our journey. I dared not look either to the right or left to view the scenery, but, holding the lines firmly, and guiding my horse in the narrow passage, I followed our leader. Carelessness here would have been fatal. Had our horse turned out of the right path, we should have plunged down a steep precipice, into the ravine below. As we rode along in almost breathless silence, I could but think how forcibly this dangerous ride illustrates the Christian’s experience. We are making life’s journey amid the perils of the last days. We need to watch carefully every step, and to be sure that we are following our great Leader. Skepticism, infidelity, dissipation, and crime are on every hand. It would be an easy matter to let go the reins of self-control, and plunge over the precipice to sure destruction.... Infinite Love has cast up a pathway upon which the ransomed of the Lord may pass from earth to heaven. That path is the Son of God. Angel guides are sent to direct our erring feet. Heaven’s glorious ladder is let down in every man’s path, barring his way to vice and folly. He must trample upon a crucified Redeemer ere he can pass onward to a life of sin. Our heavenly Father’s voice is calling us, Come up hither.... The humble, trusting ones are guided and protected in the way of peace. But He who is infinite in wisdom compels none to accept Heaven’s most precious gift—compels none to walk in the path which has been cast up at such a cost. Everyone is permitted to choose for himself the narrow, shining steep that leads to heaven, or that broader and easier way which ends in death. - Our High Calling 11.
