🌻 생명의 향기 • 굴복이 너희에게는 유익하니라 🌻 하나님께 자신을 바치는 것은 희생이 요구될 것이다. 그러나 그것은 더욱 고상한 것을 위하여 저속한 것을, 신령한 것을 위하여 세속적인 것을, 영원한 것을 위하여 사라져 없어질 것을 버리는 희생이다.  하나님께서는 우리의 의지를 파괴하려고 하지 않으신다. 그것은 우리가 의지의 활용을 통해서만 그분께서 원하시는 바를 이룰 수 있기 때문이다.  우리의 의지를 순결하고 깨끗하게 된 상태로 다시 돌려 받기 위하여, 우리는 그것을 하나님께 바쳐야 하며, 또 그분께서 우리를 통하여 당신의 사랑과 능력을 아낌없이 쏟아 부으실 수 있도록 그분께서 원하시는 방법으로 그것을 그분과 연결시켜 놓아야 한다.  강퍅하고 고집 센 자들에게는 이 같은 굴복이 참으로 쓰라리고 고통스러울지 모르나 “너희에게는 유익하니라.” 야곱은 절름발이가 되어 언약의 천사의 품에 속절없이 안기게 되었을 때 비로소 정복케 하는 믿음의 승리를 알았으며 하나님의 왕자의 칭호를 얻었다.  에서의 무장한 군대가 그의 앞에서 조용해지고, 왕의 혈통으로 난 교만한 후계자인 바로가 그의 축복을 받기 위해 허리를 굽힌 때는 그가 “그 환도뼈로 인하여 절”(창세기 32장 31절)때였다. 우리의 구원의 주께서 “고난으로 말미암아 온전케”(히브리서 2장 10절) 되신 것처럼, 믿음의 자녀들도 “연약한 가운데서 강하게 되기도 하며 전쟁에 용맹되어 이방 사람들의 진을 물리치기도 하”(히브리서 11장 34절)였다.  - 산상보훈, 62.

🌻 Aroma of Life • It is Profitable for Thee 🌻 It will require a sacrifice to give yourself to God; but it is a sacrifice of the lower for the higher, the earthly for the spiritual, the perishable for the eternal.  God does not design that our will should be destroyed, for it is only through its exercise that we can accomplish what He would have us do.  Our will is to be yielded to Him, that we may receive it again, purified and refined, and so linked in sympathy with the Divine that He can pour through us the tides of His love and power.  However bitter and painful this surrender may appear to the willful, wayward heart, yet “it is profitable for thee.”  Not until he fell crippled and helpless upon the breast of the covenant angel did Jacob know the victory of conquering faith and receive the title of a prince with God.  It was when he “halted upon his thigh” (Genesis 32:31) that the armed bands of Esau were stilled before him, and the Pharaoh, proud heir of a kingly line, stooped to crave his blessing.  So the Captain of our salvation was made “perfect through sufferings” (Hebrews 2:10), and the children of faith “out of weakness were made strong,” and “turned to flight the armies of the aliens” (Hebrews 11:34). - Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing, 62.
